The Biathlon is a team race that combines the 8.4 mile USCA Canoe Race route and the 6.7 mile Quarter Marathon Footrace route. Two-person teams start at the Brookville Tailwaters Recreation Area, where they embark in C-2 canoes. Racers canoe down the Whitewater's East Fork, to the confluence into the main river, and on down to Cedar Grove. Then they leave their canoes and proceed to run along scenic River Road back to Brookville.

Biathletes compete for the ultimate prize, the Biathlon Cup. Winners have their names engraved the Cup, and will get to hold it for one year. The Cup was generously donated by Franklin County's premier racing family, the Leffingwells. Pictured at right holding the Cup is the proud mother of 2006 champion, Craig Currens, who with Charlie Ehrenfried won the Biathlon with a combined time of 4:15:49.

Awards will available to winners as soon as results are confirmed, with the exception of the grand prize Biathlon Cup. Those wishing to receive their award early in the afternoon may do so.

There will be an official awards ceremony at 7pm for those who wish to receive their awards on stage, the presentation of the Biathlon Cup, and to those who wish to receive wild raucous applause from the Canoefest crowd. The awards ceremony is presided over by the Canoe Princess and her Court. Those winners who are not in attendance will still have their name(s) announced at the Awards Ceremony.

ALL RACERS WILL HAVE TO SIGN A WAIVER IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE
Participants under age 18 will have to have a parent or guardian sign a waiver in order to participate. NO EXCEPTIONS.

If you would like to compete in the Biathlon, but do not have a partner, we have 2 potential remedies.

First is the Canoefest Facebook Page , where you can leave your message to try to find a Biathlon partner.

Second, by request, a single-person Biathlon is offered this year. This race is available only to those who can supply their own C-1, kayak, or other floating mode of transportation, as no such boats will be available to rent from event coordinators.
